Sorry for the delay in posts. We're back and re-energized. Soon with a brand spanking new DrumSkool215 podcast chock full of deliciousness, and in the meantime we're rolling out some freshly ripped classic mix tapes. Since we've got to bring it back with a bang, I've unearthed one of the holy grails of the mid 90's jungle scene: DJ Trace w/ Dub2 MC Live @ Bassrush vs Formation, 1996.

Trace
himself actually personally insisted I upload this one - and for plenty good reason. It takes me right back to the vibes of Fridays @ 1415 Locust. Hearing all this stuff the first time around, in a dark, smoky club through floor-to-ceiling speakers was mind blowing. It's an incredibly energetic set loaded with (at the time) fresh dubs from everyone and anyone who mattered at the time. As you can see from the tracklist below (thanks to those who helped i.d.) Doc Scott, Dillinja, Grooverider, Boymerang, Lemon D, and Trace himself all contribute runnin' next step beats.

Note Dillinja's 'Tron' on side two of the mix - it's a very early rollin version of 'Silverblade' that only a select few got a copy of. I'd always hoped for a release, but it seems the DAT has been lost. :(
At least I got to hear it on a proper system a few times.

As always, keep in mind these are cassette rips, there is only so much I can do to improve the quality other than boosting the levels and tweaking the EQ's a bit. And don't forget to check out the Trace Live @ Bassquake in 1997 set that we ripped last year. More to come!!!!

Side 1

Boymerang - You Like It Like That
Nasty Habits - Shadowboxing
Lemon D - 12:01
Nasty Habits - Prototyped
Dillinja - Yo
Elementz of Noize - Planet
Boymerang - Blue Notes
Trace & Nico - Area 51
Grooverider - The Warning

Side 2

Trace - Mutant Revisited
Boymerang - Still
Trace & Nico - Replicants
Capone - Paradise
Dillinja - Tron
Trace - Squadron
Grooverider - Jon Two
Goldie - Kemistry (Doc Scott Rmx)

Download: The Progression Finally it's here! I've been waiting for this to drop for a while, ever since the "what ya say" freestyle that was featured on one of our DTY mixtapes. But i realize the best things take time. Ima go listen to it now...so download it, load it, & bump it & just let it progress!!

Update: So I'm listening right & this shit's fuckin awesome. Don't miss out! haha

The Progression reflects my growth both musically and as a person. I’ve gone through a lot of transitions as an artist. I feel like this project represents how genuine I am, something my music is able to portray. It’s gonna show the world what I’m truly about. Every song describes a situation that took place on the trek towards my dream, which I’m still on route to reaching. “The Progression” was put together to inspire anyone reaching towards something others may consider risky. I uncovered some of the events and feelings that occur during ones quest to discover true undeniable passion. From the grind and the hustle, to the feeling of glory and success all combined into one. We only live once, let’s live it how we want

6S

I know I've been missing from the DTY world, but I'm back! And for my first post of 2010 I wanted it to be a special one, so I bring you the hotness from one of my favorite female MC's, 6S!

Bey Knows Best is the first installment in a series of mixtape's from 6S.

I was even lucky enough to get a mini interview in with her!

Don't Trip Yet: Why 6S? How did it come to being?
6S: The better question is why not "success". if your goal isn't success, what are you even trying for? Success is the destination. Music is the avenue.

DTY: How did the concept of "Bey Knows Best" come about?
I was a HUGE Destiny's Child fan growing up. Even through adulthood, as I grew out of that, I always followed the ladies and of course it's hard to miss Beyonce b/c she's everywhere. I was at the "I Am...." show in Detroit actually watching Beyonce perform when I got the idea to do the mixtape. It just kind of came to me.

DTY: Are you a Bey stan?
Hahaha. Not at all. There are definitely things about her that I admire and that have influenced me. But I leave the stanning to everyone else.

DTY: What's your favorite track off of "Bey Knows Best"?
Probably "Sweet Dreams". I love the original song. It's so dynamic and hits on some many different levels.

DTY: Are you a DTY reader?
Of course! When I first started discovering blogs, DTY was one of the first that I actually followed. I'm a hip, fashionable, sassy chick....how could I NOT read DTY???

DTY: How/why do you think our readers can relate to you and your music?
I follow DTY b/c it speaks to girls like me. I make music for people like me. If you're smart little sassball, Bey Knows Best is for you ;-)

DTY: How do you embody female empowerment and progression?
In a male dominated industry, if you're not the type of woman that can hold your own and make moves, you'll get swallowed up. I think one of the things women don't realize is how much power we have and how much we can accomplish by working together instead of against each other. When ever I encounter another woman who I think is dope or doing her thing (whether it be in music or otherwise), I tell her. Dope is dope. Whether it's me or it's you.

DTY: What else do you have in store for us?
The second installment of the mixtape series will be coming up "The Bey Side". I'm featured on a few different projects that are scheduled to come out this Spring. Plus, I plan on getting back in the studio soon to record a full mixtape. I know I've been teasing people b/c Bey Knows Best is only 5 tracks and the previous project "The Boys & Girls Guide to Getting Down" was only 8. I'm finally going to give people what they've been asking for.

make sure to check out WWW.BEYKNOWSBEST.COM to get your own copy of the mixtape and keep up with 6S and all her many moves!

"Snick @ Nite” is a mixtape entirely produced by emcee/producer Curtiss King. Named after the popular block of shows Nickelodeon showed on Saturday nights in the 90s, “Snick @ Nite” is made of samples from many of Nickelodeon’s most popular Tv themes flipped into a wide variety of Hip Hop styles. Songs such as the DMV Go-Go influenced “Bangin On A Trash Can” matched with the lyricism and high energy of Hip Hop’s new class of emcees, shows that “Snick @ Nite” will be a Hip Hop release like no other."

I'm very picky about what kind of rappers I listen to, especially ones that aren`t "mainstream" . Curtiss King however blew me away. I love the whole theme/idea of this!
